Before the session, you’ll be given protective eye gear. Once the session begins, you’ll feel a stinging sensation when the laser becomes active. Will it hurt? It really depends on your hair density and thickness, but most of our patients just describe it as a very tolerable prickling sensation and some feel minimal to no pain at all. What To Do Before Your Laser Hair Removal Treatment SIX WEEKS BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT… · Discontinue all hair removal methods in the treatment area EXCEPT for shaving- including waxing, hair removal creams or chemicals, tweezing and electrolysis. · Discontinue bleaching your hair in the treatment area. · Note: Due to treatment spacing and timelines, the above guidelines will need to be followed for the duration of your hair removal journey! TWO WEEKS BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT… · Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds. · Avoid spray tans and any other kind of self-tanners. · Apply sunscreen SPF 30+ daily,and wear barrier protection such as wide-brimmed hats, large sunglasses and protective clothing when outdoors. · Avoid aesthetic treatments that may cause irritation to your skin in the treatment area. · Not sure? Reach out to usif you’ve had sun exposure or have other aesthetic treatments scheduled, as we may need to reschedule your appointment. THREE DAYS BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT… · Avoid topical irritants — these potentially include harsh soaps, medicated washes, scrubs, oils, retinols, scented lotions and peels. THE DAY BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT… · Shave the area(s) we’re treating in the direction that the hair grows with a new, clean razor. · Use a moisturizing shaving cream to reduce irritation. · For face treatments,you may closely trim the hair with scissors or a trimmer if preferred. · (If you arrive unshaved, we may have to reschedule or not be able to treat all the areas planned!) THE DAY OF YOUR TREATMENT… · Remove any products such as makeup, deodorant, lotion, sunscreen, etc. from the area being treated before your appointment. If you forget this one, we’ll have wipes on hand. · Cover any tattoos on or near the treatment area with a physical barrier—we can help you with this when you arrive! A Few More Things We Need To Know ANY CHANGES TO YOUR MEDICAL HISTORY… · New diagnosis? New pregnancy? New medications? We need to know. Please tell us, as some medical conditions and medications are not compatible with laser treatments. It may be necessary to reschedule your appointment, as your health and safety are always our top priority! IF YOU GET COLD SORES… · If you have a history of HSV-1 or HSV-2 and we are treating those areas, we recommend you take an antiviral medication starting 24-48 hours before your treatment to help prevent an outbreak, and continuing for three to five days after. Contact your primary care provider if you need prescription medication. What To Do After Your Laser Hair Removal Treatment FOR 24 HOURS AFTER YOUR TREATMENT… · Avoid direct heat and sweat— including steam rooms, saunas, and exercising. · Avoid tight, restrictive garments over the treated area(s). Wear loose fitting clothes. FOR AT LEAST THREE DAYS AFTER YOUR TREATMENT… · Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds. · Apply sunscreen SPF 30+ daily, and wear barrier protection such as wide-brimmed hats, large sunglasses and breathable protective clothing when outdoors. · Avoid topical irritants— these potentially include harsh soaps, medicated washes, scrubs, oils, retinols, scented lotions and peels. · Avoid hot baths / showers, as well as swimming (in any temperature). When bathing, use cool water and gentle soap; pat skin dry with a clean, soft towel. · Avoid scrubbing, scratching or shaving. · Moisturize with over-the-counter hydrocortisone 1% mixed with either Vaseline® or Aquaphor®, up to three times daily or as needed to help reduce irritation or itching. UNTIL YOUR NEXT TREATMENT… · Avoid all other methods of hair removal in the treatment area EXCEPT shaving; these include tweezing, waxing, hair removal creams or chemicals, threading, and electrolysis. · Avoid bleaching the hair in the treatment area. What To Expect From Your Results Laser Hair Removal is a process, with a series of treatments strategically spaced out in order to capture each growth phase of the hair cycle. While the experience is unique for every patient, here's (generally) what you can expect along the way… IMMEDIATELY AFTER · Potential redness, swelling, itching (normal!) · Hair reduction will not be visible just yet 72 HOURS AFTER · Side effects subside and skin appears as it did before treatment · Targeted hair remains in the follicle and appears to grow out as normal · Continue to shave as needed 1 - 3 WEEKS AFTER · Targeted hair reaches the surface of the skin and falls out · Remaining hair growth appears patchy and less dense · Maximum results from this session are achieved 4-6 WEEKS AFTER · New hair growth is observed · Skin is healed and you’re due for your next treatment! · We recommend this treatment approximately every 4-6 weeks, depending on the area, to achieve and maintain optimal results WITH EACH SUBSEQUENT TREATMENT · A portion of the remaining hairs are targeted as they enter a new active phase · More hair follicles are permanently reduced and hair density gradually thins out · Hair becomes lighter and finer, thus shaving is easier and less irritating to the skin · Skin feels smoother, softer and more youthful What To Do If You Experience These Common Side Effects… FOR LASER BUMPS (SWELLING AROUND THE HAIR FOLLICLES) · Apply over-the-counter hydrocortisone 1% mixed with either Vaseline®, Aquaphor® or Aloe Vera gel, up to three times daily or as needed until resolved. · Apply cold packs (wrapped in a barrier like a towel) to the affected area(s), taking them on and off every three to five minutes for one to two hours. If legs were treated, avoid standing for long periods of time and elevate them throughout the day if possible. · Avoid direct heat, tight clothing, and activities that cause you to sweat. When bathing use cool water and gentle soap. · Avoid picking or scratching the area. · May take oral Benadryl®, Allegra® or Claritin® (antihistamines available over-the-counter, liquid version preferred) as needed. FOR REDNESS, SWELLING OR DISCOMFORT · Apply over-the-counter hydrocortisone 1% mixed with either Vaseline® or Aquaphor®, up to three times daily or as needed until resolved. · Apply cold packs (wrapped in a barrier like a towel) to the affected area(s), taking them on and off every three to five minutes for one to two hours. · Avoid direct heat, tight clothing, and activities that cause you to sweat.
